Patna: Bihar is experiencing sharply contrasting and potentially hazardous weather conditions, with intense heat gripping large parts of the state even as thunderstorms, rainfall and lightning alerts have been issued for several northern and eastern districts.
According to the India Meteorological Department, temperatures have surged across south Bihar, with Dehri in Rohtas district recording a high of 42.2°C. In several other areas, the mercury is approaching the 45°C mark, significantly affecting daily life.
Heatwave Conditions Intensify
Dry westerly winds have pushed temperatures to extreme levels, creating heatwave-like conditions across much of the state. Officials said the early onset of such heat — typically associated with peak summer — has raised concerns.
Storm And Lightning Alerts In North Bihar
In contrast, the IMD has issued short-term alerts for districts including East Champaran, Shivhar and Sitamarhi, forecasting rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning within hours.
Wind speeds of 30–40 kmph are expected in these areas, along with the possibility of dust storms.
More severe conditions are likely in Madhepura, Saharsa and Darbhanga, where winds could reach 50–60 kmph — strong enough to uproot trees and damage weaker structures.
Wider Impact Across Seemanchal
Districts such as Madhubani, Supaul, Araria, Katihar and Purnia are also expected to receive rainfall and experience storm activity. Bhagalpur and nearby regions may see light to moderate showers, offering limited relief from the heat but accompanied by continued lightning risk.

Public Advisory Issued
Health experts have urged residents to stay hydrated and avoid outdoor exposure during peak afternoon hours.
The weather department has also advised people to avoid sheltering under trees or near electric poles during storms and to stay away from open fields during lightning, which remains a major cause of fatalities in the state.
Officials said the combination of extreme heat and sudden storm activity could pose risks to both health and property, calling for heightened caution in the coming days.
