Patna: Bihar is slowly slipping into the early embrace of winter, with misty mornings, dew-drenched fields, and a faint chill in the air signalling the seasonal shift. While residents are reaching for light sweaters and enjoying steaming cups of tea in the cool dawn, meteorologists say the harsher winter is yet to arrive.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Patna recorded a minimum temperature of 18–20°C on Wednesday morning, with daytime highs likely to reach 28°C. Evenings will see a dip to around 22–24°C, accompanied by a mild breeze and a pleasant chill. The IMD has predicted dry weather across most parts of North and South Bihar, including Patna, for the next few days.
Westerly winds have begun blowing at moderate speeds across northern Bihar, making the air crisper and mornings foggier. Districts such as Muzaffarpur, Darbhanga, Gopalganj, and Purnia are expected to experience light to moderate fog for the next three days, with visibility in Purnia already dropping to 400 metres.
During the day, however, the bright, gentle sunshine balances the coolness, keeping conditions “pleasant.” Meteorologists describe this phase as the transitional period before the onset of a sharper winter.
No rainfall is expected in the state until November 15, according to the IMD. In the last 24 hours, Madhubani recorded the highest temperature at 33°C, while Aurangabad reported the lowest at 16.9°C — an indication that while nights are getting colder, daytime warmth persists.
Temperatures across the state are expected to fall by another 2–3°C over the next three days, though there is no likelihood of severe cold in the first half of November.
As days grow shorter, villagers have begun preparing for bonfires, and urban residents are dusting off jackets and blankets. For now, Bihar finds itself in that brief, cherished window between autumn’s end and winter’s arrival — when the mornings are cool, the days are warm, and the evenings hum with the quiet comfort of chai and conversation.
