Patna: The Bihar government has completed another major transfer of funds to support women under the Chief Minister’s Women Employment Scheme. Today, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar transferred Rs2,500 crore to the accounts of 25 lakh women beneficiaries, at the rate of Rs10,000 per person. The scheme was launched on September 26, 2025, by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the presence of the Chief Minister, when Rs7,500 crore had already been transferred to 75 lakh women. With today’s payment, a total of Rs10,000 crore has reached 1 crore women in Bihar.
Speaking at the event from Sankalp, 1 Anne Marg, the Chief Minister congratulated the women for joining the scheme and said the programme aims to benefit one woman from every family in the state. He announced that the next tranche of payments is scheduled for October 6, and that further transfers will continue weekly. Women who gain employment through the scheme will also receive additional support of up to Rs2 lakh, giving them more opportunities to start businesses or improve livelihoods.
The event highlighted personal stories of success. Anju Kumari, a Jeevika Didi from Samastipur and the scheme’s ten-millionth beneficiary, shared her journey. She had taken small loans through her self-help group to grow vegetables and rear milch animals, gradually earning profits and repaying loans. With the Rs10,000 received today, she plans to open a grocery store. Anju said the Chief Minister’s initiatives have given respect and recognition to women and improved the lives of their families.
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar also spoke about the government’s long-standing focus on women’s empowerment. He mentioned earlier policies including 50 percent reservation for women in Panchayati Raj institutions and municipal bodies, 35 percent reservation in police and government jobs, and the growth of the Jeevika self-help groups, now reaching over 1.1 million groups with 14 million women. He emphasized that the scheme, backed by central government support, will help women create employment, boost family income, and contribute to the state’s development. A short film on the scheme was shown during the event, and officials welcomed the Chief Minister with a green plant as a symbol of growth and prosperity.
