Patna: In a significant outreach initiative, the Bihar State Women’s Commission will begin a statewide campaign to raise awareness about women’s rights by directly engaging with women in rural areas. The programme, titled ‘Mahila Aayog Aapke Dwar, Janiye Apne Haq Aur Adhikar’, aims to take the Commission’s services to the doorstep of underserved communities.
The campaign will be launched on April 11 from Samastipur district and will subsequently cover various districts across Bihar. As part of the initiative, camps will be organised in villages to interact with women, particularly those who are unaware of their legal rights and available support mechanisms.
Chairperson of the Bihar State Women’s Commission, Professor Apsara, said the move is aimed at bridging the awareness gap among rural women. “Many women in villages and blocks are not aware of the Commission and their rights. It is our responsibility to reach out and make them aware. Through this initiative, we will visit villages and sensitise women about their rights and the steps they can take against injustice and exploitation,” she said.
The first camp will be held in a village located on the border of Ujiarpur and Sarairanjan blocks in Samastipur. Women from both blocks, especially those from marginalised backgrounds, are expected to participate.
The Commission has invited Social Welfare Minister Madan Sahni to inaugurate the programme. Around 1,000 women are expected to attend the first camp, and the district administration has been informed to facilitate the arrangements.
This marks the first time the Commission is organising such grassroots-level camps. Previously, camps were conducted mainly at district headquarters, where women had to visit and submit applications. Officials noted that such setups were more accessible to urban, educated women, while those in rural areas often remained unaware of their rights and support systems.
Through this initiative, the Commission aims to ensure that information about legal rights and redressal mechanisms reaches women at the grassroots level, enabling them to take action against injustice and violence.
