Patna: The beautification and modernisation of river ghats in Patna is underway, with three newly developed ghats now ready under the Namami Gange project. The Bihar Urban Infrastructure Development Corporation (BUDCO) has completed construction work at Bhadra Ghat, Mahavir Ghat and Nauzar Ghat in the Azimabad zone.
Officials said the three ghats will soon be handed over to the Patna Municipal Corporation for maintenance and public use. The redevelopment aims to provide safer and more convenient facilities for devotees, especially during major festivals.
According to BUDCO Managing Director Animesh Kumar Parashar, the construction of these additional permanent ghats was undertaken in view of the increasing number of devotees during the Chhath festival. Earlier, these ghats were temporary and posed difficulties for visitors.
The upgraded ghats have been equipped with modern amenities, including proper barricading to ensure safety and high-capacity lighting systems for better visibility. Authorities have emphasised creating a secure and user-friendly environment for the public.
At Bhadra Ghat, a well-developed permanent structure has been built over an area of 100 metres by 40 metres. The ghat has also been widened, and a 565-metre-long promenade has been constructed. Facilities such as changing rooms, toilets and bathing areas have been provided, along with high-mast lighting across the premises.
In addition, Mahavir Ghat and Nauzar Ghat have been upgraded with new permanent structures. At Mahavir Ghat, two new ghats measuring 30 metres by 20 metres each have been constructed. Similarly, two ghats of the same size have been developed at Nauzar Ghat. All locations have been equipped with adequate lighting, barricading and sanitation facilities to ensure convenience for visitors.
The initiative is expected to significantly improve infrastructure along the riverfront and enhance the experience for devotees during festivals and daily visits.
