Patna: A 21-year-old BPSC aspirant died and another youth was critically injured after their motorcycle reportedly fell into a pit within the under-construction Danapur-Bihta elevated road project area near Godhna village early Friday morning.
The incident took place around 4 am under the jurisdiction of Neura police station when the two were travelling from Patna to Banaras on a motorcycle.
Victim Identified as BPSC Aspirant
The deceased has been identified as Ansh Kumar, also known as Ranjan Kumar, a resident of Murli village in Madhubani district’s Phulparas area. He had been living in Patna while preparing for the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) examination and other competitive tests.
The injured youth, Ritik Kumar, 26, is a resident of Muzaffarpur district. He was also residing in Patna’s Bazar Samiti locality and preparing for competitive examinations.
According to preliminary information, the motorcycle lost control while passing through the construction zone near Godhna village and fell into a pit dug for bridge construction work.
One Dies at Spot, Companion Under Treatment
Police said Ansh Kumar died at the scene due to severe injuries. Ritik Kumar sustained critical injuries and was shifted to a hospital with the help of local residents.
After receiving information about the accident, Neura police reached the spot, recovered the body and sent it to the Sub-divisional Hospital in Danapur for post-mortem examination.
Authorities have informed the families of both the deceased and the injured youth.
FSL Team Asked to Examine Incident
Priyanka Kumari, Station House Officer of Neura police station, confirmed that one person died and another was injured in the accident.
She said the case is under investigation and the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team has been informed to conduct a technical examination of the incident site.
Safety Concerns Resurface
The accident has renewed concerns over safety arrangements along the Danapur-Bihta elevated road construction corridor.
Local residents alleged that several deep pits remain exposed within the project area and that adequate barricading and warning signage are lacking at multiple locations. They claimed that accidents have occurred in the area previously as well.
Residents also referred to a recent incident near Neura police station in which an iron component reportedly fell on a vehicle belonging to a district council member during construction work. No serious injuries were reported in that case.
Demand for Stronger Safety Measures
Following the latest accident, local residents have urged the administration and the construction agency to strengthen safety protocols across the project site.
They have demanded proper barricading, warning signs and regular monitoring of hazardous sections of the construction zone to prevent further accidents. Officials have not yet issued a statement regarding any additional safety measures.
