Patna: In an unusual development for a state where government recruitment drives often attract lakhs of applicants, the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) has reopened the application process for 13 professor posts after receiving an inadequate number of applications.
The vacancies are for Professor of Physics and Professor of Chemistry in government engineering colleges functioning under Bihar’s Department of Science, Technology and Technical Education.
According to BPSC, the number of eligible applicants received during the initial application period was not sufficient to fill all advertised positions. As a result, the commission has decided to provide another opportunity to interested candidates.
Fresh Application Window Opens
The commission has reopened the online application portal from June 18. Eligible candidates can submit their applications until June 30, 2026.
BPSC has clarified that all required educational, professional and supporting certificates must have been issued on or before June 30. Documents issued after the closing date will not be considered during the recruitment process.
High Qualification Requirements
The recruitment has drawn attention because professor-level posts generally require advanced academic qualifications, significant teaching experience and research credentials.
Education sector observers say these requirements may have limited the pool of eligible applicants, leading to the lower-than-expected response despite strong demand for government jobs in Bihar.
Guidelines for Candidates
The commission has advised applicants to carefully review eligibility criteria, educational qualifications, experience requirements and other recruitment conditions before submitting their forms.
Candidates must ensure that all information provided in the application is accurate and supported by valid documents. Applications containing incomplete details or incorrect information may be rejected.
Recruitment Under Watch
The development has sparked discussion within Bihar’s higher education sector, where institutions continue to face challenges in recruiting experienced faculty members for specialised academic positions.
Officials hope the extended application period will attract more qualified candidates and enable the commission to complete recruitment against all 13 vacant posts.
