Ara: A protest erupted in Bihar’s Bhojpur district on Thursday after the body of Bharat Bhushan Tiwari, a youth who died following a police encounter, was brought to his native Bilauti village under Shahpur police station limits.
Angry villagers placed the body on the Ara–Buxar four-lane highway and staged a road blockade, disrupting traffic movement. Protesters alleged that Bharat had surrendered before the police but was shot despite laying down his arms.
A large number of residents gathered at the protest site and demanded action against the police personnel involved in the encounter. Administrative and police officials reached the spot and began efforts to persuade protesters to end the blockade and restore normal traffic operations.
Death After Encounter
According to police and local reports, Bharat Bhushan Tiwari was seriously injured during a police encounter in Bilauti village on Wednesday.
He was initially taken to Ara Sadar Hospital and later referred to Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) for advanced treatment. He died during treatment at the hospital.
The death triggered anger among family members and villagers, who questioned the police account of the encounter and demanded an impartial investigation into the incident.
Post-Mortem Conducted Under Magistrate’s Supervision
Following his death, the body was taken to PMCH for post-mortem examination.
Officials said the procedure was conducted under the supervision of a magistrate. A medical board was constituted to carry out the examination, while Bhojpur police officers remained present during the process.
The body was later handed over to the family and transported to Bilauti village under security arrangements.
Police Say Investigation and Legal Process Continue
Bhojpur Superintendent of Police Raj said a magistrate had been deputed through the district administration to oversee the post-mortem proceedings.
He added that an FIR has been registered at Shahpur police station and other legal formalities related to the encounter are being completed.
Police have not responded publicly to the allegation that Bharat was shot after surrendering. The circumstances surrounding the encounter remain under investigation.
