Muzaffarpur: B.R. Ambedkar Bihar University in Muzaffarpur is set to host its long-awaited convocation on August 25, the first such event in six years. The ceremony, led by Vice-Chancellor Dinesh Chandra Rai, is being positioned as a symbol of the institution’s drive for academic excellence and institutional integrity.
The convocation will be chaired by the Governor of Bihar, Arif Mohammad Khan, with the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Manoj Sinha, attending as the chief guest. Their participation, the vice-chancellor said, reflects the university’s ambition to set a higher benchmark for quality education.
As part of the preparations, the university syndicate approved Dinesh Chandra’s proposal to rename key establishments after national figures. The auditorium has been named in honour of Bihar Kesari Krishna Singh, while other landmarks will bear the names of Acharya Kripalani and Rashtrakavi Dinkar. “It is a matter of great pride for our university to be associated with these nation builders,”Dinesh Chandra said, adding that the initiative would deepen the cultural and academic ethos of the campus.
The event will feature only toppers and registered PhD students, who must follow a formal dress code. The university has carried out major renovations, including the reopening of an auditorium left unused for over a decade, and implemented a comprehensive security plan. A full rehearsal has been scheduled for August 23 to ensure smooth proceedings.
Dinesh Chandra stressed that the convocation is more than a ceremonial milestone, describing it as the beginning of a new chapter rooted in the institution’s heritage while advancing towards excellence. Faculty members including Proctor B.S. Rai, Prof. Rajeev Kumar, Prof. T.K. Dey, Prof. Ram Kumar, Dr. Shartendu Shekhar, Dr. Renubala and Dr. Navin Kumar were present at preparatory meetings.
