On the directions of Bihar’s director general of police, Vinay Kumar, a special CID team was dispatched to Muzaffarpur on Tuesday. The team, led by a deputy superintendent of police–rank officer, has begun a detailed examination of the scene and the background of the family.
According to the DGP, investigators have been asked to look beyond the immediate facts of the case and assess the family’s social and economic conditions. The inquiry will examine whether the family was burdened by debt, subjected to pressure or harassment, or targeted by illegal moneylenders or extortionists. Officials will also verify whether the family had access to, or was receiving benefits from, central or state government welfare schemes.
The Muzaffarpur district police have been instructed to provide full cooperation to the CID. Senior officers said the objective was to establish the truth and to ensure accountability if negligence or criminal involvement is found at any stage.
The case has also renewed the state government’s focus on illegal moneylending. Bihar’s home minister, Samrat Choudhary, has said that eliminating loan sharking is a priority for the government, warning that such practices inflict severe economic and psychological harm on vulnerable families. Police and administrative officials have been directed to intensify action against unlawful lending and extortion.
Authorities said the findings of the CID investigation would determine the next course of action in the case.
