Patna: Dengue is taking a worrying turn in Bihar’s capital as the number of patients crossed 300 this week. Fifteen new cases were detected on Sunday and five more on Monday, raising concerns for health authorities.
According to officials, fresh patients have been reported from Punpun, Mahendru, Agamkuan, Fatuha, and Mithapur. The Health Department has identified 20 hotspots across six zones of Patna, where more than five cases have been found.
The Bankipur zone remains the worst-hit, recording 92 cases so far. Pataliputra zone has reported 61 cases, followed by Nutan Rajdhani (29), Azimabad (18), Kankarbagh (15), and Patna City (20). Dengue has also spread to Phulwarisharif and Danapur.
Civil Surgeon Dr. Avinash Kumar Singh has directed all major hospitals in Patna to make special arrangements for dengue patients. At Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH), a dedicated 10-bed ward has been prepared. The Health Department has urged citizens to maintain cleanliness, avoid stagnant water, and use mosquito nets even during the day to curb the spread of the disease.
Meanwhile, two fresh cases were confirmed at Nalanda Medical College and Hospital (NMCH) on Monday. Dr. Prof. Sanjay Kumar, Head of the Microbiology Department, said 64 samples were tested, out of which two were positive. Both patients, including a three-and-a-half-year-old girl, have been admitted to the Medicine Department.
NMCH has reserved 40 beds for dengue treatment, equally divided between men and women.
Health officials warned that with the monsoon season still active, cases may rise further if preventive measures are not strictly followed.
