Patna: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for six districts in Bihar, warning of dense fog over the next few days. The districts under alert are East Champaran, West Champaran, Sheohar, Sitamarhi, Supaul and Madhubani, where visibility may be significantly reduced, particularly during early morning hours.
Cold conditions continue to be felt across the state during both day and night, though residents are experiencing some relief from winter chill due to sunshine in the afternoon. The IMD said that overall weather conditions will remain stable, with no forecast of rainfall or cold wave over the next four to five days. The weather is expected to stay dry during this period.
However, meteorologists have indicated that a change in conditions is likely after February 12, when temperatures may begin to rise across the region. This shift could bring a gradual end to the lingering winter chill, particularly during daytime hours.
Over the past 24 hours, the weather across Bihar has remained largely normal, with average temperatures ranging between 23°C and 28°C. A drop of 1°C to 2°C was recorded in several districts, including Motihari, Vaishali, Supaul, Madhepura, Kishanganj, Purnia, Buxar, Patna, Munger, Sabour and Kaimur. In contrast, a similar increase in temperature was observed in Valmikinagar, Ziradei, Muzaffarpur, Madhubani, Forbesganj, Agwanpur, Bhagalpur, Katihar, Sasaram, Arwal, Jehanabad, Nalanda, Sheikhpura, Banka, Dehri, Aurangabad and Gaya.
In Patna, chilly conditions are expected to persist during the morning and evening, while sunny afternoons will provide relief. The maximum temperature is forecast to remain between 23°C and 25°C, with minimum temperatures between 13°C and 14°C. The IMD has not issued any warnings for rain, cold wave or dense fog for the state capital.
