Patna: The Ganga river’s water level is rising steadily in Patna, crossing the danger mark at several key ghats and prompting urgent action from local authorities. Heavy rainfall across the region has pushed the river and its tributaries to alarming levels, with officials warning of a potentially worsening flood situation.
At Gandhi Ghat, the water level was recorded at 48.62 metres—more than a metre above the danger mark of 47.60. Similar conditions were observed at Digha Ghat (49.74m vs 49.45m danger mark), Danapur (50.48m vs 50.20m), and Maner (51.25m vs 51.00m), with all four sites now exceeding or nearing critical thresholds.
The district administration and disaster management department have declared the situation serious. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) have been deployed, and precautionary measures are being swiftly implemented. Barricades have been erected at affected ghats, boat services have been suspended, and increased surveillance has been ordered in low-lying riverbank areas.
Tributaries such as the Son, Punpun and Gandak are also witnessing a surge in water levels, compounding the risk. The authorities attribute the rise to ongoing intense rainfall across the region.
