Patna: Seat-sharing discussions within the Grand Alliance are reportedly in their final stages, with Mukesh Sahani, founder of the Vikassheel Insaan Party and former Bihar minister, suggesting that an announcement could come at any moment. Speaking to reporters, Sahani said the alliance is proceeding smoothly and confirmed that further meetings were scheduled for the evening.
Sahani also echoed calls from Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav for fair elections. “Since the Narendra Modi government came to power, it is widely perceived that there have been attempts to undermine democracy,” he said, adding that vote-buying practices were increasingly visible in the run-up to the elections.
He emphasised the role of the Election Commission in safeguarding democratic processes. “In the Constitution, Baba Saheb [Ambedkar] has made the people the masters of democracy. Leaders are accountable to the public, who review their performance every five years,” he said.
However, Sahani expressed scepticism about the commission’s impartiality, claiming its recent actions appeared to favour the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). “Yet the public will fight these elections strongly and seek to remove a government that disregards the Constitution,” he added. He also noted that the Election Commission must decide the number of phases in which voting will be conducted.
