Patna: The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has launched a new Master of Science (MSc) programme in Climate Change, offering students an opportunity to gain specialised knowledge in one of the world’s most pressing environmental challenges. The admission process is currently underway, and candidates can apply until July 15.
The two-year postgraduate programme carries a total of 80 credits and is open to graduates from any academic discipline. IGNOU has also provided an exit option, allowing students who complete the first year to obtain a Postgraduate Diploma in Climate Change.
Focus on Climate Solutions
The university said the programme has been designed to prepare a new generation of professionals capable of developing scientific, practical and sustainable solutions to climate change-related issues.
With climate change increasingly affecting ecosystems, economies and communities across the globe, the multidisciplinary course seeks to provide learners with the knowledge and skills required to address emerging environmental challenges.
Wide-Ranging Curriculum
The programme will cover subjects including climate science, climate risk assessment, adaptation and mitigation strategies, environmental management and sustainable development.
Students will also study water resources, energy systems, agriculture, biodiversity conservation, disaster risk reduction, waste management, circular economy, environmental law, public health and climate assessment.
According to the university, the curriculum has been structured to provide both theoretical understanding and practical insights into climate-related issues.
