Patna: A major road project running along the India-Nepal border in north Bihar is nearing completion, with officials indicating that the long-pending infrastructure initiative could be opened to the public soon.
The Indo-Nepal border road, spanning approximately 554km within Bihar, will pass through districts including West Champaran, East Champaran, Sitamarhi, Madhubani, Supaul, Araria and Kishanganj, connecting border regions up to Galgalia.
According to officials, more than 531km of the road has already been completed, with remaining work — particularly in parts of Kishanganj — progressing rapidly. Construction of bridges and culverts along the route is also in its final stages.
Authorities said the road will significantly improve connectivity in the Seemanchal, Mithilanchal and Champaran regions, reducing travel time and facilitating movement across remote border areas.
The project is also considered strategically important, as it will enable easier movement for security forces, including the Border Security Force, and strengthen surveillance along the international border. Officials added that improved access could help curb smuggling and other cross-border activities.
Beyond security, the road is expected to boost trade and tourism by enhancing connectivity between India and Nepal, while also supporting local economic development.
If work continues as planned, officials said the project is likely to be completed within the current year, marking a key milestone in infrastructure development in the region.
