Patna: A senior Janata Dal (United) legislator has fulfilled a public vow by offering new ornaments to the deity at Thawe Bhavani temple in Bihar’s Gopalganj district, days after a theft at the shrine triggered anger and distress among devotees.
Amarendra Kumar Pandey, the JD(U) MLA from Kuchaikot, along with his brother Satish Pandey, offered five ornaments – including a crown – to the goddess on Monday after thieves stole several items, among them the original crown, last week.
The theft at the popular temple had sparked widespread outrage in the area, with devotees expressing grief over the loss of the sacred ornaments. Pandey said his family was “deeply hurt” on learning about the incident and soon announced that new ornaments would be dedicated to the deity.

On Monday, the brothers arrived at the temple premises, performed the prescribed rituals and offered a necklace, crown, earrings, bindi and other adornments. They later held discussions with the temple priest and reviewed security arrangements at the shrine.
“The blessings of Thawe Bhavani extend not only to Gopalganj but to the entire state of Bihar,” Pandey said, expressing confidence that those responsible for the theft would face the consequences of their actions.
News of the offering drew a large number of devotees to the temple, many of whom described the gesture as an expression of faith and devotion. Given the heavy turnout, police stepped up security at the site, deploying additional personnel under the supervision of senior officers, including the Sadar sub-divisional police officer Anil Kumar and SDPO Pranjal.
