Patna: As the nomination process for the Bihar Assembly elections gets underway, rumours have intensified that Jyoti Singh, the estranged wife of popular Bhojpuri singer and actor Pawan Singh, is preparing to enter the political fray. Reports suggest she is gearing up to contest the elections from the highly watched Karakat constituency, but her campaign is poised to take a remarkably unconventional route: public crowdfunding.
The news was not officially confirmed by Jyoti Singh, but instead came via a viral social media video posted by Veena Manvi, President of the Mahila Vikas Manch. In the video, Manvi revealed that Jyoti Singh is financially constrained and will launch a unique campaign to seek public support for her political ambition.
The Appeal for the ‘Blessing of Re 1’
According to Veena Manvi, the lack of campaign resources is forcing a direct appeal to the electorate. She stated that while supporters initially rallied behind Jyoti Singh, many have reportedly deserted her as the election dates arrived, leaving her in a difficult position.
The Mahila Vikas Manch President detailed the unusual financial strategy:
“Jyoti Singh will soon release a scanner so that the people of Karakat can donate just Re 1 as a blessing so that she can contest the Bihar assembly elections and defeat her opponents. Jyoti needs support to contest the elections.”
Manvi asserted that despite the difficulties, Jyoti Singh is determined to contest the elections from Karakat “at any cost,” relying solely on the public’s generosity. She added that Jyoti Singh has spent the past year attending to the needs of the people in the Karakat, Nabinagar, and Dehri assembly constituencies, claiming she has received immense public affection.
Seeking Public Advice on Candidacy
The reports of her electoral debut follow a statement from Jyoti Singh herself, who took to social media to express her dilemma and seek guidance from the voters of Karakat.
“The people of Karakat are like gods. I am in a strange dilemma. I want to know what to do… Whether I contest the elections or not, the people there have always been and will always be revered by me.”
She announced her intent to visit the constituency to consult with the public directly, adding, “I hope you’ll treat me like a daughter and daughter-in-law, both with answers and advice.”
