Patna: The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) has made a major decision ahead of the 2025 Bihar Assembly election. Party president Lalu Prasad Yadav has been given complete authority to choose candidates and allocate party symbols for the upcoming polls. The decision was made during the RJD’s state and central parliamentary party meetings held on Friday at the official residence of former Chief Minister Rabri Devi in Patna. The meetings were chaired by Leader of the Opposition Tejashwi Yadav, who led the discussions on the party’s strategy.
The first part of the meeting was held with the state parliamentary party, where members passed a resolution authorising Lalu Yadav to take charge of selecting candidates and deciding which seats the party will contest. Later, during the central parliamentary party meeting, which was attended by both Tejashwi and Lalu Yadav, the resolution was formally approved. This means Lalu Yadav will once again play the key role in planning the RJD’s campaign for the state elections.
Party sources said the decision shows that Lalu Yadav continues to hold strong influence in the RJD’s major political decisions. Even though Tejashwi Yadav has been leading the party in the assembly and is seen as the face of the RJD’s future, the party still trusts Lalu’s political experience and judgment in choosing the right candidates. Lalu has been known for his deep understanding of Bihar’s caste and regional politics, which the RJD hopes will help it make a strong comeback in the 2025 polls.
During the meeting, Lalu Prasad Yadav addressed the party members and urged them to work together with full dedication. He said that this time, RJD workers should ensure that a government is formed in Bihar under the leadership of Tejashwi Yadav. Party members unanimously supported this goal, passing another resolution to strengthen Tejashwi’s position as the leader for the upcoming election. The meeting ended with a clear message of unity and determination from the RJD camp as it prepares to challenge the ruling alliance in Bihar.
