Patna: Mishri Lal Yadav, the former BJP MLA from Alinagar in Darbhanga, is set to have his assembly membership reinstated after the Patna High Court overturned a lower court ruling that had led to his disqualification.
Yadav, who had been disqualified following a two-year sentence handed down by the MP-MLA court in connection with a 2019 case, met Bihar Assembly Speaker Nandkishore Yadav during the last session to discuss the court’s latest decision.
“The Hon’ble Patna High Court has quashed the civil court’s decision. I met the Speaker today and informed him. My membership will be restored,” Yadav told reporters following the meeting.
Yadav has had a controversial political journey. His conviction in 2023 had led to his disqualification just ahead of the trust vote for the Nitish Kumar government in 2024 — a session in which he voted in support of the NDA, drawing public attention.
Initially elected on a Vikasheel Insaan Party ticket in 2020, Yadav later switched allegiance to the BJP. He began his political career as a mukhiya (village head) and went on to serve as a member of the Bihar Legislative Council before being elected as MLA.
