Patna: The circumstances surrounding the death of Dularchand Yadav, a supporter of the Jan Suraaj Party, remain under investigation after a violent clash between rival political groups in Bihar’s Mokama constituency.
Initial reports indicate that Yadav, did not die solely from a gunshot wound, despite sustaining one. A medical team conducting the post-mortem—including Dr Dilip Kumar, Dr Ajay Kumar, and Dr Rohan Kumar—confirmed that while the bullet was fatal, the exact cause of death remains unverified. Dr Ajay Kumar noted that X-rays revealed multiple abrasions and a bullet lodged near Yadav’s heel. The team is expected to submit a detailed report to the police in the coming days.
Yadav was reportedly killed on Thursday evening after an altercation that escalated between supporters of the Jan Suraj Party and the Janata Dal (United). According to eyewitnesses, the confrontation began when the convoys of Jan Suraaj candidate Piyush Priyadarshi and JD(U) candidate Anant Kumar Singh crossed paths near Basavanchak village. A stone-pelting incident by Jan Suraaj supporters reportedly triggered gunfire from Singh’s supporters, resulting in panic and chaos.
In the melee, Dularchand Yadav was allegedly shot in the leg and then run over by a Mahindra Thar vehicle, killing him instantly. Another young man was reportedly injured in the firing, while Priyadarshi himself was beaten by Singh’s supporters.
Yadav, a former 2010 assembly election candidate from Barh, had declared 11 criminal cases in his election affidavit. Following the incident, tension escalated in the Tal area, prompting a heavy police and paramilitary presence from Patna and Barh.
Villagers have accused JD(U) candidate Anant Singh and his supporters of the murder. Singh, in turn, alleged that Suraaj Bhan’s supporters—husband of an RJD rival candidate—were behind a conspiracy and claimed his convoy had been attacked near Basavanchak, leaving several injured and ten vehicles damaged.
