Motihari: Efforts to operationalise air connectivity in Motihari have gained momentum, with authorities identifying 27 acres of land for the proposed airport under the UDAN scheme.
Officials said a detailed survey of the land has been completed and a report has been submitted to the state government, marking a key step towards launching small aircraft services in the region.
In the initial phase, preparations are under way for the construction of the airport’s boundary wall and essential buildings. The responsibility for executing this work has been assigned to the state’s building construction department, with estimates currently being finalised.
Authorities have also completed physical verification of the land, while a weather assessment report is being prepared and is expected to be submitted within a week. Once these formalities are completed, the project is likely to move into the execution phase.
The demand for an airport in Motihari has been longstanding, and officials say the current progress signals a shift from planning to implementation.
The proposed airport is expected to benefit students and faculty associated with Mahatma Gandhi Central University, as well as local businesses that rely on faster connectivity for trade and travel.
Meanwhile, progress is also being reported in the nearby Raxaul, where land acquisition for a proposed international airport is in its final stages. Officials said payments are being made to landowners across multiple areas, with around 139 acres targeted for acquisition.
District magistrate Saurabh Jorwal said the proposal for Motihari airport development has been submitted and construction work is expected to begin soon.
Authorities believe the project will significantly improve regional connectivity and contribute to economic growth in the area.
