Patna: Nishant Kumar, the son of Nitish Kumar, is set to launch his political career with a four-month statewide tour beginning on May 4, in a move that signals a new phase for the Janata Dal (United).
The tour, titled “Sadbhav Yatra”, will commence in West Champaran and is expected to take him across multiple districts as he seeks to build a political base and connect with grassroots workers. According to party sources, the initiative is aimed at strengthening organisational morale while introducing Kumar as a public-facing figure within the party.
A specially designed campaign vehicle—described by party leaders as a “high-tech chariot”—has been prepared for the tour, which will run for approximately four months. During this period, Kumar is expected to hold meetings with party workers and interact with residents to hear their concerns.
Speaking ahead of the launch, Kumar said he intended to visit every district, listen to grievances from both the public and party cadre, and work towards addressing them. The tour’s central message, he added, would focus on promoting “sarva dharma sambhav”, or equal respect for all religions, at a time when questions of social cohesion remain politically salient.
On Friday, Kumar visited the party’s state headquarters in Patna, where he held a closed-door meeting with senior leaders and workers lasting nearly two hours. Following the meeting, he released a detailed schedule for the tour.
He is expected to formally inaugurate the tour at 1.30pm on May 4, marking the beginning of what he described as his “new political innings”, with an address to supporters gathered at the launch site.
