Patna: A major infrastructure project aimed at improving both drainage and road connectivity in Patna is set to be inaugurated on Monday, bringing relief to thousands of residents living in the heart of the city. The Mandiri Drain redevelopment project, completed at a cost of more than Rs 115 crore, will be inaugurated in the presence of Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar and senior leaders of the NDA government. Rajya Sabha MP and former Bankipur MLA Nitin Nabin described the project as a major step towards strengthening civic facilities and modern infrastructure in Patna. He said the completion of the project reflects the government’s commitment to solving long-standing public problems linked to drainage, traffic congestion and urban connectivity.
The newly renovated Mandiri Drain has been developed by Patna Smart City Limited and stretches across 1,289 metres. The project includes a covered drain with a two-lane road built over it, connecting important parts of the city including Nehru Path, J.P. Ganga Path, Ashok Rajpath, the double-decker flyover and PMCH. Officials believe the new route will significantly reduce traffic pressure on Bailey Road, one of Patna’s busiest roads, while also improving travel for people heading towards north Bihar. Residents from wards 25, 26 and 27 are expected to benefit directly from the project, which also includes a service road, drainage facilities, utility ducts, ramps for maintenance work, landscaping and modern street lighting.
Speaking emotionally about the inauguration, Nabin recalled that the idea for the Mandiri Drain project was first proposed in 2004 by his late father, senior BJP leader Nabin Kishore Sinha. He said seeing the project completed and dedicated to the public was a deeply personal moment for him. According to Nabin, he had also laid the foundation stone for the project during his time as MLA for Bankipur in the presence of the chief minister. “Today I feel proud that I got the opportunity to fulfil my father’s dream,” he said, adding that the project would improve the daily lives of thousands of local residents.
The redevelopment work is also expected to strengthen Patna’s drainage system by connecting feeder drains from several important areas including Mithapur, Gardanibagh, Babu Bazar, Dhobighat, Eco Park and S.P. Verma Road. BJP leaders said development work in the Bankipur constituency has gained pace under Nabin’s leadership, with continued focus on roads, drainage systems, drinking water supply and public welfare projects. Local residents and party workers have expressed excitement ahead of the inauguration ceremony, seeing the Mandiri Drain project as one of the biggest urban development projects completed in central Patna in recent years.
