Patna: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) reinforced its foothold in the Mithila region as Nitish Mishra claimed a decisive victory in the Jhanjharpur Assembly constituency during the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections. Mishra secured 107,958 votes, defeating his closest rival, Ram Narayan Yadav of the Communist Party of India (CPI), by a margin of 54,849 votes.
The contest saw a diverse field of candidates, including Keshavchandra Bhandari of the Jan Suraaj Party, who received 11,563 votes, Krishna Kumar Sahu (Independent) with 4,513 votes, Devkant Jha (AAP) with 2,347 votes, and Abdul Irfan (Independent) with 1,992 votes. The ‘None of the Above’ (NOTA) option attracted 3,112 votes, while other independent and minor party candidates garnered minimal support.
Analysts attribute Mishra’s commanding win to his longstanding reputation for development initiatives and effective public engagement in the region. His entrenched influence in Jhanjharpur left little room for competitors, underscoring the BJP’s strong organisational strategy and the party’s growing appeal in the constituency.
