Gayaji: Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar escaped unhurt on Saturday after the stage at his public rally in Belaganj, Gaya, collapsed under the weight of supporters crowding onto it to greet him with a massive 20kg flower garland.
The incident occurred shortly after the CM arrived at the venue. As dozens of workers climbed onto the platform to welcome him, the centre section gave way with a loud crack. Security personnel immediately stepped in, clearing the crowd and stabilising the structure.
Later, as the rally concluded, one side of the stage caved in again, prompting the CM’s security staff to swiftly escort him to safety. No serious injuries were reported.
Chaos As Workers Surge Onto Stage
Witnesses said the platform had already begun shaking as party workers pushed forward for a closer view.

Nitish Attacks Opposition: ‘They Did Nothing Except Care For Their Families’
Speaking earlier in Rafiganj, Aurangabad, Nitish Kumar used his address to deliver sharp political attacks, accusing the previous RJD-led government of neglect and misgovernance.
“The previous government did nothing. They only cared for their families. When he stepped down, he made his wife the chief minister,” he said, without naming rivals.
Kumar contrasted today’s Bihar with conditions before 2005, claiming that his administration restored law and order, improved roads, expanded electricity access and strengthened public services.
“There was fear everywhere. People didn’t step out after dusk. Today boys and girls roam freely,” he said.
‘We Have Given 10 Lakh Jobs’
The CM defended his government’s employment record, reiterating his 2020 promise.
“We had committed 10 lakh jobs and 10 lakh employment opportunities. Now, employment has reached 40–50 lakh. In the next five years, we will ensure opportunities for one crore youth,” Nitish declared.
He also highlighted women’s reservation policies, noting 50% reservation in panchayats and 35% in government jobs.
Kumar further emphasised the expansion of the Jeevika women’s collective, which began in 2006 with World Bank support and has now grown to over 1.4 crore members.
