Patna: Patna’s district administration is stepping up its efforts to remove illegal encroachments from the city, announcing a large-scale anti-encroachment drive set to begin on Monday and continue until February 28.
The campaign, coordinated by District Magistrate Dr Thiyagarajan SM and Senior Superintendent of Police Kartikeya K. Sharma, will involve nine specially formed teams tasked with enforcing municipal regulations across six municipal zones – Nutan Rajdhani, Patliputra, Kankarbagh, Bankipur, Azimabad, and Patna City – as well as the Khagaul, Phulwari Sharif, and Danapur Nizamat areas of the Municipal Council.
The operation will include officers from multiple departments, including municipal administration, traffic and transport, revenue, road construction, health, police, fire services, telecommunications, forest division, and electricity, highlighting the administration’s multi-agency approach. Dr Thiyagarajan emphasised the need for coordinated action and continuous communication between departments.
Priority will be given to major routes and public spaces, including Saguna More to Danapur Station, Boring Road, Atal Path, Patna Station Road, Kankarbagh Main Road, areas around Gandhi Maidan, and Ashok Rajpath. Key intersections, roundabouts, and T-junctions have been designated as “zero tolerance zones.” Habitual encroachers will face punitive measures, including compulsory FIR registration for repeat violations.
Traffic police will also carry out targeted vehicle checks as part of the campaign, which will be reviewed daily to monitor progress and inform further action. The administration has committed to releasing monthly calendars for anti-encroachment operations, aiming to maintain sustained enforcement and keep follow-up teams active.
