Patna: Municipal authorities in Patna have announced a series of enforcement measures targeting sanitation lapses and public safety risks following a review meeting at the headquarters of the Patna Municipal Corporation. The meeting, chaired by Municipal Commissioner Yashpal Meena, focused on strengthening urban management and ensuring compliance with civic regulations across wards.
Officials were directed to carry out a special drive to assess the condition of manholes, a recurring safety concern in the city. Executive officers, engineers and sanitation inspectors have been asked to conduct regular field inspections, undertake immediate repairs where needed and prioritise the replacement of severely damaged structures. Authorities must also submit detailed action-taken reports within a stipulated timeframe.
The review meeting further highlighted the need for stricter monitoring of hoardings and banners installed on rooftops and building facades. Municipal teams have been instructed to verify whether advertisements comply with building bylaws and issue notices to violators. The move is aimed at addressing safety hazards and maintaining the city’s visual order as urban construction and advertising activity increases.
In addition, officials announced a renewed enforcement drive against the open sale of meat and fish on streets, citing municipal regulations notified in 2014. Inspection teams will conduct routine checks and initiate action against vendors operating outside designated norms, a step authorities say will improve hygiene standards and reduce public health risks.
The commissioner stressed that regulatory violations would not be tolerated and reiterated that urban cleanliness, citizen safety and planned development remain key priorities for the civic body. Senior municipal officials, including the additional and deputy municipal commissioners and engineering teams, attended the meeting and were tasked with ensuring time-bound implementation of the directives.
