Patna: The district administration in Patna has issued a directive stressing the timely payment of compensation to landowners affected by ongoing infrastructure projects, with officials warned that delays will not be tolerated.
At a Project Monitoring Group meeting reviewing 30 active schemes, Patna district magistrate Dr Thiyagarajan SM instructed officials to prioritise land acquisition payments and respond promptly to complaints about postponements. He ordered the district land acquisition office to establish village-level camps where residents can submit applications and track the progress of compensation claims.
The magistrate also directed circle officers to act against encroachments along project routes and asked the traffic superintendent to prepare diversion plans where necessary to ease construction-related disruptions.
According to the administration, compensation linked to the Ramnagar–Kacchi Dargah road project under the Bharatmala initiative is being processed via the Bhoomi Rashi portal. Payments of Rs 10.67 crore have already been disbursed to 55 farmers.
For the Danapur–Bihta elevated road corridor, officials reported that Rs 72 lakh in compensation was paid to landowners between February 10 and 24. Overall disbursements for the project have reached Rs 188.06 crore benefiting 959 farmers, while an additional Rs 149.76 crore has been approved by the National Highways Authority of India for further payments.
The elevated corridor, designed to improve connectivity between Patna and western Bihar, is scheduled for completion by June 2027. Roughly 45% of construction work has been finished, with authorities aiming to accelerate progress on the remaining portion. The project’s stated goals include reducing travel times and enhancing road safety.
Officials said they will monitor the compensation process closely and take action in cases of procedural delay, underscoring the administration’s emphasis on balancing infrastructure development with fair treatment of affected landowners.
