Patna: A 25-year-old engineer from Danapur, Patna, has returned home after being held hostage in Myanmar for nearly two months. Sachin Kumar Singh was lured abroad with the promise of a lucrative engineering job offering an annual package of Rs 12 lakh, only to be forcibly detained and threatened.
On June 26 Sachin was persuaded by a broker, Dharmendra Chaudhary, to travel to Myanmar. Despite holding only a tourist visa, Sachin was assured of a work visa and flown first to Kolkata, then Bangkok, before being driven to Myanmar. Upon arrival, his mobile phone and visa were confiscated, and he was forced to work in a cyber scam operation.
Sachin described enduring torture, including electric shocks, and being coerced to participate in illegal activities. His captors also demanded Rs 1,75,000 from his brother and threatened to sell his organs if he did not comply.
The ordeal ended after Patna Police, in coordination with the Indian Embassy in Myanmar and Thailand, secured his release and returned him via Delhi. City SP West Bhanu Pratap confirmed that Sachin was initially deceived by the promise of a high-paying job and that a special investigation team has been formed to probe the case.
Authorities have arrested Sunil Kumar, a resident of Sitamarhi, involved in Sachin’s detention, while the investigation continues into the roles of other intermediaries based in Nepal.
