Patna: The Mithapur-Karbigahiya-Chiraiyatand corridor, long regarded as one of Patna’s most gridlocked stretches, is set for much-needed relief with the construction of a multi-phase flyover. Thousands of vehicles crawl through the bottleneck daily, but officials say the first phase of the project will soon open to the public.
Piling work on the Mithapur-to-Karbigahiya section has been completed, and preparations are under way to erect the superstructure. Construction teams have been deployed in multiple shifts to meet deadlines. The design includes separate ramps for vehicles moving to and from Mithapur and Karbigahiya, aiming to reduce choke points and allow smoother flow.
The flyover will connect near the Ashoka Pillar statue at Mithapur roundabout, enabling vehicles from the New Bypass to reach the bus stand directly. The existing road will be converted into a service lane to accommodate local traffic.
Once completed, the project will be executed in two stages: the first between Mithapur and Karbigahiya roundabout, followed by an extension to Chiraiyatand bridge. Authorities believe the full project will drastically cut travel times, turning what is now an hour-long ordeal into a matter of minutes.
Commuters, shopkeepers, and passengers heading to Karbigahiya station and Mithapur bus stand are expected to be the main beneficiaries. The flyover, officials say, will not only ease congestion but also mark a major improvement in Patna’s traffic management system.
