Patna: Bihar’s capital has embarked on a new chapter in urban transport with the launch of its first metro train. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar inaugurated the Patna Metro on Monday, personally taking the inaugural ride alongside other state ministers and senior officials.
The metro, which will initially operate between the New Patliputra Bus Terminal (ISBT) and Bhootnath via Zero Mile, is expected to transform daily commuting for Patna residents. The first phase of the network comprises a three-coach train capable of carrying around 900 passengers per trip.

Following the inaugural journey, the service will be opened to the public. Excitement was palpable at the launch ceremony, with onlookers keen to witness the city’s first modern metro.
Plans are already in place to extend the line later this year to Khemnichak and Malahi Pakadi. Fares will start at rs 15 for travel between adjacent stations, with a maximum fare of Rs 30 for end-to-end journeys.
The metro’s launch marks a significant step in modernising Bihar’s urban transport, offering residents a faster, more convenient alternative for navigating the city.
