Patna: Patna Metro achieved a major milestone on with the successful installation of the final U-girder on its Priority Corridor. This marks the completion of all key structural elements required for the elevated track. Officials described the moment as an important step forward in bringing modern metro connectivity to the city, which has long struggled with heavy traffic and limited public transport options.
The work of launching U-girders began on 26 January 2023 and continued steadily over the past two years. In total, 328 girders have been installed across the corridor. These large concrete structures form the base on which metro tracks are laid. With the final girder now in place, most of the major civil construction work on this stretch has been completed, allowing the project to move into its next phase.
During the construction period, especially while launching girders, many roads in the city saw traffic diversions and restrictions for safety reasons. This caused inconvenience to commuters and local residents. Now that this phase is over, people are expected to get relief from frequent traffic jams and roadblocks in the affected areas.
Officials said that the focus will now shift to track laying, signalling systems, overhead electrification, and finishing work at stations. The Priority Corridor includes key stations such as ISBT, Zero Mile, Bhoothnath Road, Khemnichak and Malahi Pakri. Metro services have already started on a small section between ISBT and Bhoothnath Road, and work is ongoing to make the entire corridor operational soon. Once completed, the metro is expected to make daily travel in Patna faster, easier and more reliable.
