Patna: Officials overseeing the Patna Metro Rail Project have been directed to accelerate construction work and ensure the swift resolution of pending issues following a high-level review meeting held on Monday.
The meeting was chaired by Baldeo Purushartha, Joint Secretary in the Department of Economic Affairs (DEA), Ministry of Finance, Government of India, and focused on assessing the progress of the metro project and identifying measures to maintain momentum.
Progress And Challenges Reviewed
During the meeting, officials conducted a detailed review of the project’s current status, including construction progress, implementation milestones and target timelines.
The discussion also examined various challenges and bottlenecks affecting the project, with agencies instructed to address pending matters promptly to avoid delays in execution.
Officials emphasised the need for timely decision-making and coordinated action to ensure that construction activities continue without interruption.
Focus On Coordination Among Stakeholders
Purushartha placed particular emphasis on improving coordination and communication among the multiple agencies and stakeholders involved in the project.
He said effective collaboration between departments would be essential for completing the metro project within the stipulated timeframe.
Officials were also directed to take necessary steps to ensure the optimal utilisation of resources and further accelerate construction activities across project corridors.

JICA Expresses Satisfaction
Representatives of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), which is supporting the project, also participated in the review.
According to officials, JICA representatives expressed satisfaction with the progress achieved so far and noted that the Patna Metro project is advancing in line with its planned targets due to the coordinated efforts of the implementing agencies.
Senior Officials Attend Meeting
The meeting was attended by Jaideep, Officer on Special Duty (Urban Transport) in the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs and Chairman of Patna Metro Rail Corporation Limited (PMRCL); Sandeep Kumar R. Pudakalkatti, Managing Director of PMRCL; representatives of JICA; and senior officials from PMRCL and the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC).
Officials expressed confidence that the completion of the metro project would provide Patna with a modern, safe and environmentally sustainable public transport system.
They said the metro network is expected to significantly strengthen urban mobility, ease traffic congestion and provide a major boost to the capital’s transportation infrastructure.
