Patna: Vehicle owners in Patna have been urged to update their mobile numbers in their vehicle registration certificates (RC) and driving licences (DL), or face the risk of being fined. The state transport department has made the update mandatory in a bid to streamline services and ensure timely communication regarding violations and other essential information.
According to data from the Patna District Transport Office (DTO), mobile numbers are not registered in the RCs of 6,13,929 vehicles across the district. Officials say this has led to repeated failures in delivering e-challans for traffic violations, which results in fines going unpaid and accumulating over time.
The transport department says registering a mobile number will allow vehicle owners to receive alerts related to pollution certificates, tax payments, insurance updates, challans, and ownership transfers. The number must be linked to the owner’s Aadhaar card to avoid the risk of notifications being sent to incorrect recipients due to outdated or mismatched information.
If the name on the Aadhaar and the RC do not match, owners must visit the DTO to apply for necessary corrections.
The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has set a deadline of three months for the update. The process can be completed free of charge via the department’s official portal or at the nearest DTO office.
