Patna: The Patna Municipal Corporation has reported outstanding property tax dues of approximately Rs 65.60 crore for the financial year 2025–26, pending against 63,816 property holders across the city.
Recovery Drive Intensified
The civic body has launched a comprehensive recovery drive and begun issuing demand notices to defaulters, particularly targeting those with dues exceeding Rs 1 lakh. Officials said the notices will act as a final warning before enforcement action.
According to the corporation, legal proceedings will be initiated under Section 155 of the Bihar Municipal Act, 2007 against property holders who fail to clear their dues within the stipulated period.
Action Against Major Defaulters
PMC has identified 685 property holders with arrears above Rs 1 lakh and has started issuing demand notices to them. In case of non-payment, the corporation may proceed with attachment of bank accounts and properties, seizure of assets, and auction of movable and immovable property.
Officials also indicated that, if required, the names of major defaulters may be made public as part of enforcement measures.
Zone-Wise Outstanding Dues
The corporation shared zone-wise data of pending collections:
- Nutan Rajdhani Zone: Rs 16.65 crore from 11,327 property holders
- Bankipur Zone: Rs 15.13 crore from 7,780 property holders
- Patliputra Zone: Rs 14.88 crore from 17,328 property holders
- Kankarbagh Zone: Rs 8.67 crore from 8,959 property holders
- Azimabad Zone: Rs 7.07 crore from 11,838 property holders
- Patna City Zone: Rs 3.17 crore from 6,584 property holders
Additional Recovery Measures
Apart from major defaulters, property holders with dues exceeding Rs 5,000 are being contacted through the corporation’s control room at headquarters and urged to clear payments at the earliest.
Officials said the drive aims to improve compliance and strengthen municipal revenue collection.
Awareness and Incentives
PMC noted that a One-Time Settlement (OTS) scheme introduced by the state government last year helped several defaulters clear pending dues with penalty waivers.
The corporation also offers a 5% rebate for taxpayers who pay the full annual property tax in the first quarter. Public awareness campaigns are being conducted through waste collection vehicles, announcements, and outreach programmes to encourage timely payment.
Officials have appealed to citizens to clear outstanding taxes within the stipulated period to support urban development initiatives and avoid punitive action.
