Patna: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the death of a NEET aspirant in a girls’ hostel in the Chitragupt Nagar police station area of Patna is close to reaching a conclusion. The seven-member SIT has been conducting an intensive investigation from Patna to Jehanabad and has gathered fresh inputs that have changed the direction of the probe. After collecting technical evidence, the team is questioning two suspects.
According to police sources, the student’s mobile phone search history shows that she searched for information related to suicide and sleeping pills on December 24 and January 5. Investigators are treating this as a crucial link in the case, as the student travelled to Jehanabad soon after and later returned to Patna.
The SIT has also examined CCTV footage from the girls’ hostel. Officials said no suspicious activity was seen outside the student’s room, raising the possibility that the link to her death may lie outside Patna, possibly connected to Jehanabad.
Key Focus of the Investigation
The SIT is currently waiting for certain investigation reports and technical analysis to arrive. These are expected to help reveal the full sequence of events. Senior officers are avoiding detailed comments, and the SIT is proceeding cautiously to ensure no mistakes are made.
During the initial probe, Patna Police had disclosed that sleeping pills were recovered from the student’s room and traces of the drug were also found in her urine sample. This has raised a critical question: how did she obtain the sleeping pills, as such medicines are usually not sold without a doctor’s prescription?
This has become one of the most important aspects of the investigation. Police are also examining whether the student was under pressure, being blackmailed, or facing some problem that she could not share with anyone.
Some People Under the Scanner
Sources said the SIT has placed a few individuals under the scanner. On Sunday, one team visited two private hospitals in Kadamkuan and Munna Chak, where the student had received treatment earlier. After questioning doctors and staff, the team collected some evidence.
Another four-member SIT team also travelled to Jehanabad the same day to verify links related to the case.
Forensic Report Expected Soon
When asked about the CID probe, ADG Parasnath said that ADG (Weaker Sections) Amit Kumar Jain is overseeing the case. He has also visited the spot. A team from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) has collected samples from the scene. The FSL report is expected within the next four to five days. “The investigation is ongoing. Only after the reports come in can anything be said with certainty,” he said.
SIT Visits Student’s Village Again
For the second consecutive day, an SIT team also visited the student’s native village and questioned her family members. Team member Menaka Rani gathered several important details from the victim’s relatives. The student’s father, brother and some villagers were questioned.
The SIT team spent over three hours in the village but declined to share any specific findings. The investigation is continuing on multiple fronts as police try to piece together the circumstances that led to the student’s death.
