Patna: Patna is taking an important step to improve fire safety in the city with the installation of 11 new fire hydrants in different municipal areas. The project will cost about Rs 1.23 crore and the money has been provided by the Disaster Management Department. Officials say this decision will help bring fire situations under control quickly, especially in crowded and high-risk areas where access to water is often a major challenge during emergencies.
Each fire hydrant will cost around Rs 11,23,700 and will be installed in an area of about 600 square feet. The locations have been selected carefully by the Disaster Management Department in coordination with the Patna Municipal Corporation. Once these hydrants are in place, fire engines will not have to depend on distant water sources. Instead, they will get water immediately at the spot, which can save valuable time and help reduce loss of life and property.
The proposal for installing the hydrants was approved during the 19th ordinary meeting of the empowered standing committee of the Patna Municipal Corporation. A total of six fire hydrants will be installed in the Kankarbagh zone, which has a high population density. These include Ward 29 on Jakkanpur Thana Road between Aryabhatta University and Chanakya National University, Ward 34 near the tempo stand and the slum area close to the Patliputra Sports Complex, and Ward 35 near the slum area close to the Disabled Hospital in Kankarbagh. Additional hydrants will be set up in Ward 44 near the park at Malahi Pakri Chowk and in Ward 46 near the playground in Bahadurpur Sector 7.
In the Bankipur zone, three fire hydrants will be installed to improve safety in busy and vulnerable localities. One hydrant will come up in the slum area opposite Saidpur Hostel in Ward 47. The other two will be installed on Kazipur Road No. 2 near the residential complex of the Under Secretary and in Ambedkar Colony, Lohanipur, in front of a park. These areas often face difficulties during emergencies due to narrow roads and heavy population.
The Nutan Rajdhani zone will also get new fire hydrants to strengthen fire response in the area. One hydrant will be installed in the slum area at the corner of Nehru Nagar on the road leading to the Nehru Nagar Tax Bhavan office. Two more hydrants will be set up at the CPI quarters on Courtganj Road and in a vacant space near the corner of a drain. Officials believe that once all 11 hydrants are operational, Patna will be better prepared to deal with fire accidents, making the city safer for its residents.
