Patna: Additional police forces have been deployed at key intersections and outside party offices in Patna as authorities brace for further demonstrations following a series of protests and lathi-charges earlier this month.
The Bihar State Armed Police (BSAP), armed with batons, are now stationed at major junctions including Gandhi Maidan, Ramgulam Chowk, Dak Bungalow, the Income Tax Roundabout, as well as outside offices of the JDU and BJP. Officers are tasked with monitoring crowds, directing protesters away from restricted areas, and maintaining order from morning until late afternoon, according to senior police officials.
Central SP Diksha said the deployment is a precautionary measure in anticipation of further protests and demonstrations, and the force will remain in place until at least September 26, with the possibility of extension depending on the situation.
Recent protests have posed significant challenges for local law enforcement. Demonstrations involving TRE 4, zonal officers, special survey officers, Dial 112 drivers, chowkidar dafadars, and competitive exam candidates disrupted traffic for hours, with occasional scuffles breaking out between protesters and police. Sources indicate that government officials are divided over the use of force, which opposition parties have sought to leverage in the ongoing election environment.
The newly deployed personnel were briefed on Wednesday morning by Law and Order DSP Krishna Murari Prasad before taking up their posts. Authorities emphasised strict adherence to instructions, underlining the priority of preventing any gaps or lapses in law enforcement.
