Patna: Patna police have seized a substantial consignment of Marijuana (ganja) worth more than Rs 2 crore and arrested two men in a major anti-drug operation, highlighting growing concerns over the state’s illicit trade amid the ongoing alcohol prohibition.
The haul, recovered from a truck smuggled from Kolkata to Patna, weighed approximately 369 kilograms. The operation came following a tip-off to the Masaurhi police station about a suspected consignment. Acting on the information, the Senior Superintendent of Police authorised a team led by ASP Masaurhi to intercept the vehicle.
Two individuals, truck driver Laxman Kumar and his assistant Khalasi Guddu, both residents of Athmagola, were taken into custody. During questioning, they revealed that the consignment had been transported on behalf of an unknown person from Kolkata. Police confirmed that a search for the mastermind behind the operation is ongoing.
Patna East SP Parichay Kumar said the seizure was part of broader vehicle checks conducted under the Model Code of Conduct for the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections. Authorities warned that vigilance against drug smuggling would continue in the run-up to the polls.
