Patna: The Secretary of the Road Construction Department, Pankaj Kumar Pal, conducted an inspection of several major road projects in Patna on Friday, urging officials to accelerate work while maintaining quality standards.
The projects, announced during the Chief Minister’s recent progress tour, aim to ease traffic congestion across the city and improve connectivity, particularly in the western and southern corridors.
Pal reviewed the widening and strengthening of Nehru Path to Gola Path, the 4-lane Khagaul Nehru Path to Ashok Rajpath Rupaspur Canal Road, and the construction of a road with underground drainage from Rupaspur Canal to Saguna Mor Nehru Path. He also inspected the 2-lane widening of the AIIMS Golambar–Janipur–Painapur–Newa section of the Bihta-Sarmera–Patna Ring Road and connectivity works from Patli Path to Nehru Path towards Danapur.

According to departmental updates, the 6.9 km Khagaul Nehru Path–Ashok Rajpath Rupaspur Canal project has completed 1.2 km of drains, 0.7 km of retaining wall, and 2 km of granular sub-base work, with a budget of Rs 71.48 crore. The Rupaspur Canal–Saguna Mor Nehru Path road, spanning 2.7 km, is under construction with raft foundations in progress and a sanctioned cost of Rs 318.5 crore. Meanwhile, the 10.5 km AIIMS Golambar–Janipur–Painapur–Newa stretch has seen 2.1 km of drainage and 5.5 km of sub-base and earthwork completed, out of a Rs 138.5-crore allocation.

During the site visits, Pal instructed engineers to prioritise timely completion without compromising on quality, warning that action would be taken in case of delays. He also asked agencies to increase manpower to ensure the work progresses efficiently.
The Secretary emphasised that these projects will provide alternative traffic routes, particularly in Patna’s western and southern areas, reducing congestion on main thoroughfares. Senior officials and engineers from the Road Construction Department accompanied him during the inspections.
