Patna: Patna administration has opened two air-conditioned lounges for delivery workers at Income Tax Golambar and near gate number 4 of Gandhi Maidan, as part of a wider set of Smart City projects worth Rs. 93.5 crore.
The lounges are equipped with sofas, drinking water, mobile charging points and storage space, offering basic amenities for gig economy workers during breaks.
Smart City officials said Patna is now the third city in the country to introduce dedicated AC rest spaces for delivery personnel.
Facilities for delivery workers
The new lounges have been developed to provide a resting space for delivery staff, who often spend long hours outdoors across the city.
Officials said the initiative was designed to improve working conditions by ensuring access to shelter and essential services in central areas.
Nine Smart City projects launched
Alongside the lounges, the state government inaugurated and laid the foundation for nine urban development projects with a combined outlay of Rs. 93.5 crore.
Among the newly completed facilities is a common service building in Mithapur, built at a cost of Rs. 10.68 crore. The building is intended to provide multiple public services under one roof.
New commercial and parking infrastructure
Three additional projects were announced, including the construction of 50 modern-design shops, 200 pre-fabricated shops and a pre-fabricated rotary parking system.
Officials said these projects would involve an investment of nearly Rs. 18 crore.
Riverfront and city infrastructure upgrades
The Riverfront Development Project along JP Ganga Path has been completed at a cost of RS. 32.14 crore.
A further RS. 17.83 crore has been spent on installing 12 variable message display systems across the city for public information and advertising.
The development of the stretch between Gandhi Maidan and LCT Ghat has been carried out at a cost of RS. 11.99 crore.
In addition, the forest department has developed a green area and walking path along Ganga Path at a cost of RS. 2.54 crore.
Officials said the projects are part of broader efforts to strengthen urban infrastructure and public amenities in the state capital.
