Patna: Former Bihar chief minister Rabri Devi has written to the state government seeking more time to vacate her official residence after the expiry of a 15-day notice issued by the building construction department.
The development comes after the state government had directed her to vacate the bungalow within the stipulated period, triggering political attention over the allocation and relocation process.
Health concerns cited for delay
In her letter, Rabri Devi said the delay in vacating the residence was linked to the health condition of RJD chief Lalu Prasad.
She said doctors had advised special precautions because of his vulnerability to infections. According to the letter, a separate room with specific arrangements has been made for him at the current residence at 10 Circular Road.
Rabri Devi said shifting immediately without similar facilities at the new accommodation could affect his medical care and recovery.
Request for similar facilities at new bungalow
The former chief minister has requested the government to ensure that the newly allotted residence at 39 Harding Road is equipped with comparable arrangements before the family relocates.
She has asked for dedicated rooms and essential facilities for Lalu Prasad, similar to those currently available at the existing residence.
Rabri Devi said the family would shift once renovation and required modifications at the new bungalow are completed.
Notice issued by building construction department
The Bihar building construction department had earlier served a 15-day notice asking Rabri Devi to vacate the official residence.
RJD MP Misa Bharti had previously stated that the family would comply with the order and vacate the premises.
With the notice period now over, the state government is expected to consider Rabri Devi’s request and decide on the next course of action.
Speculation over possible relocation
Amid the ongoing dispute over the residence, Rabri Devi had recently visited another government bungalow in Kautilya Nagar, fuelling speculation that the family could shift there.
However, with the request for facilities at 39 Harding Road now formally made, the final relocation plan remains unclear.
