Patna: The holy month of Ramadan will begin on Thursday, following the sighting of the moon across India on Wednesday evening. The announcement coincided with Isha prayers and the start of the Taraweeh prayers, marking the commencement of the month-long period of fasting and devotion for Muslims.
The first fast will be observed on Thursday, with devotees rising early for Sehri—the pre-dawn meal—before abstaining from food and drink until Iftar at sunset. Muslims will observe daily fasts for the entire month, dedicating themselves to prayer, reflection, and acts of charity, while maintaining purity in thought, word, and deed. Five daily prayers will continue to be observed in accordance with Islamic practice.
In Bihar, Sehri is scheduled at 4:53am and Iftar at 5:44pm, though timings vary slightly between cities. Shia and Sunni communities may follow respective religious leaders for precise observances. Iftari, the meal that breaks the fast, is traditionally a communal event, emphasizing equality and the shared spirit of faith.
In Patna, the state capital, daily Sehri and Iftar times during Ramadan are expected to range from 5:04am to 4:37am for Sehri, and 5:46pm to 6:02pm for Iftar, with fasts lasting between 12 hours 42 minutes and 13 hours 25 minutes over the month.
The month of Ramadan is a period of spiritual renewal, reflection, and community, bringing together families and communities across India in observance of one of Islam’s most sacred traditions.
