Patna: All registration offices across Bihar will remain open on Sundays throughout the month of March, allowing citizens to complete property registration even on weekly holidays. The state’s Prohibition, Excise and Registration Department issued an order confirming that registration services will operate on Sundays just like any regular working day.
Officials said the decision was taken to improve convenience for the public, particularly for people who find it difficult to visit government offices during the week. Property registration, including the registration of land and flats, will continue without interruption on these days.
The initiative was first introduced in January 2026, when the department began keeping registration offices open on Sundays and other holidays. Since then, the facility has reportedly received a strong response, especially from working professionals who prefer to complete property-related paperwork during weekends.
Government data shows that during the four Sundays in January – 4, 11, 18 and 25 a total of 3,324 documents were registered across the state. These registrations generated more than Rs 21 crore in revenue for the department.
The figures also reveal a steady rise in registrations across the Sundays that month. On the first Sunday, 141 documents were registered, generating Rs 85 lakh in revenue. The second Sunday saw 540 registrations worth Rs 3 crore, while the third recorded 901 registrations bringing in nearly Rs 6 crore. By the fourth Sunday, the number had climbed to 1,742 registrations, generating Rs 11.55 crore.
The trend continued in February as well. During the two Sundays that month, nearly 3,000 documents were registered, helping the department collect more than Rs 20 crore in revenue, according to officials.
Authorities believe extending services to Sundays will continue to boost property registrations while making the process more accessible for the public.
