Patna: Ritu Jaiswal, former president of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) Mahila Morcha, has publicly criticised party leaders Lalu Prasad and Tejashwi Prasad Yadav, alleging double standards within the party, after being denied a ticket for the Parihar assembly seat in Sitamarhi and subsequently expelled.
Jaiswal, who is now contesting the Parihar seat as an independent candidate, was among several party members—including sitting MLAs, MLCs, and former legislators—expelled for six years. The party cited running as independents against official candidates or supporting others as the reason for the disciplinary action.
On Tuesday, Jaiswal took to Twitter to voice her grievances, questioning the party’s decision-making and contrasting it with past cases. “Let’s assume I’ve rebelled. But Mohammad Kamran… why was his ticket cancelled? What was the crime of a calm and composed man who, despite being an MLA, was discharging his duties as party treasurer with utmost dedication?” she wrote. She also highlighted what she described as preferential treatment for party families, referencing the ticket allocation to Ramchandra Purve’s relatives despite alleged anti-party activity in 2020.

The RJD has nominated Smita Purve Gupta for the Parihar seat, while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is fielding Gayatri Devi. Jaiswal, who previously contested the Lok Sabha elections from the Shivhar seat on an RJD ticket, was defeated by Janata Dal (United) candidate Lovely Anand by nearly 30,000 votes.
