Patna: The rift within Lalu Prasad’s family widened on Sunday as three of his daughters — Ragini, Rajlaxmi and Chanda Yadav — left Rabri Devi’s Patna residence with their families, leaving the once-bustling political home virtually empty.
Their departure came barely a day after their sister, Rohini Acharya, announced she was quitting politics and distancing herself from the family, followed by two emotional social media posts in which she alleged mistreatment and humiliation.
Rohini claimed she was “forced to leave [her] maternal home”, saying she left in tears after slippers were raised at her and abuses were hurled. “I was orphaned. I did not compromise my self-respect,” she wrote. She later pinned photos and videos of the kidney she donated to Lalu Prasad, calling it a reminder of her sacrifices for the family.
While Rohini’s pointed accusations did not name individuals directly, her criticism appeared aimed at her brother Tejashwi Yadav’s close aide Sanjay Yadav, whose influence in the RJD has grown sharply in recent years. Sources claim that Sanjay plays a decisive role in Tejashwi’s political engagements and strategy.
Lalu’s elder son Tej Pratap Yadav, who has been disowned by the family and expelled from the party, has openly voiced his displeasure about Sanjay’s role and has recently referred to him as “Jaychand”, a term associated with betrayal — a remark widely interpreted as aimed at Tejashwi’s adviser.
As the RJD continues to reel from its electoral defeat, the family’s internal tensions have now spilled decisively into public view.
