Bhojpur: The Bihar government has announced the establishment of a new degree college in Sandesh block, a move that has been widely welcomed by residents who see it as a long-overdue step toward strengthening higher education infrastructure in rural areas. The decision is part of the state’s policy to set up at least one degree college in every block.
For years, students in Sandesh and nearby villages have faced limited access to higher education. After completing intermediate studies, many were required to travel nearly 25 kilometres to Arrah or relocate to larger cities such as Patna to pursue graduation. The distance, combined with transport costs and safety concerns, made continuing education difficult for many families.
The lack of a local college particularly affected female students, whose studies were often discontinued due to financial limitations and social constraints. With the new institution planned within the block, families expect improved enrolment and retention, allowing more young women to complete their undergraduate education without leaving their hometowns.
Education officials say the move will not only reduce travel time and expenses but also create a more supportive academic environment for students from economically weaker backgrounds. Local access to higher education is expected to encourage more students to pursue degrees and professional courses.
Beyond academics, the college is also seen as a catalyst for broader development. Residents believe the institution will generate employment, improve infrastructure and contribute to the social and economic growth of Sandesh and surrounding areas, marking a significant step in expanding opportunities in rural Bihar.
