Patna: The holy month of Sawan, considered especially sacred for the worship of Lord Shiva, will begin on July 30 and conclude on August 28 with Sawan Purnima and Raksha Bandhan.
According to astrologer, this year’s Sawan will commence under the rare conjunction of Shravan Nakshatra, Ayushman Yoga, and Saubhagya Yoga, which is regarded as highly auspicious for Shiva worship.
Auspicious Beginning for Shiva Devotees
The astrologer said devotees observing rituals during this period are believed to receive special blessings from Lord Shiva. The month is traditionally marked by prayers, fasting, and offerings at Shiva temples across Bihar and the country.
During Sawan, devotees also worship Goddess Parvati, Lord Ganesha, and Lord Kartikeya along with Lord Shiva.
Four Somwar Fasts in Sawan
This year, Sawan will include four Somwar (Monday) fasts, observed by devotees seeking blessings for health, prosperity, and family well-being.
The dates are:
- August 3: First Somwar
- August 10: Second Somwar
- August 17: Third Somwar
- August 24: Fourth and final Somwar
Major Shiva temples in Patna are expected to organise Rudrabhishek, Jalabhishek, and special Shringar rituals throughout the month.
According to Hindu tradition, offering Bel leaves, Datura, Bhang, and Ganga water to the Shivling during Sawan is considered especially significant.
