Patna: The winter session of the Bihar Assembly opened in Patna on Monday, with two newly elected MLAs drawing attention for their unconventional and modest arrivals.
Ajay Dangi, the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MLA representing the Tekari constituency, chose to travel to the Assembly in an auto-rickshaw rather than in an official convoy or luxury vehicle. Making his first entry as an MLA, Dangi’s low-key arrival quickly became a talking point among legislators and journalists at the complex.
Speaking to reporters, he said he preferred to travel like ordinary citizens. “I come from among the people and believe I should live like them,” he said.
In a similar display of simplicity, Gautam Rishi, the MLA from the Maheshwari constituency, arrived wearing slippers. Rishi told the media that public office should not alter a person’s lifestyle. “I find slippers comfortable. Holding a position should not change who we are,” he said.
Their minimalist appearances stood in contrast to many of their colleagues, who drove into the Assembly in luxury cars. The pair’s understated approach sparked conversation about simplicity and accessibility in public life.
The session marks the opening of the 18th Bihar Assembly and features extensive technological upgrades, with officials calling it a step towards a fully digital, paperless legislature aimed at increasing transparency and efficiency.
